1 Virginia was originally built in 1934 and consisted of two floors (later expanded to eight). A nine-story addition facing Maryland Street was completed in 1958. In 2007, the facade was modernized and the building renovated into 23 condos and about 50,000 square feet of office space. A vacant 11,000-square-foot first-floor restaurant space was occupied by Scotty's Brewhouse until 2018.

1 Virginia has previously been known as Allen Plaza, the Jefferson National Building, Jefferson Plaza, and the Indiana National Bank Building.
