This station serve the town of Lansdowne Road in Dublin, Ireland.
Lansdowne Road station opened on 1st July 1870. This part of Pembroke Township
was a high class residential district and the residents wanted a station, but to safeguard
against loss, the railway directors requested that the Pembroke Estates should pay half
the cost of constructing the station. If the station made a profit, the company would
repay the half and own the station. One of the directors wanted it called Pembroke
Estate, but Lansdowne Road was eventually settled on. In the event, the station
was well supported and the company acquired full ownership.
