  • I went there by catamaran from Papeete in 2006. This island is paradoxical: its waters are full of "sea cucombers" who send webs at you if you touch their gelly-like body. Its sands are white but dry and salty, the entire fortst is made of only coconut trees and infested with rats running all around and mosquitos flying so loud you can hear them. Its beaches are absolutely full of garbage from Tahiti iti? Or maybe further? There is a part of the atoll where all the birds are. I was explained they are here, on this tiny part of the atoll because it's the only one where there are no rats! So there are thousands of birds there! There are no fish in the inner part of the lagoon. And still, maybe because it was the only atoll I ever could see, it was fascinating!! I could not go to the "Brando" part of the lagoon, of course. I can't resist revealing to the lucky wikimapia geek that probably the greatest playground on earth for kite-surfing... Rumor has it Michael Jackson wanted to buy the atoll from Marlon Brando, but ended up broke.
