Department of Mines and Geology conducts geological surveys of the country. Recently the Department proposed two projects: (1) Tapping natural gas of Kathmandu valley (near Lalitpur area) and supplying for household consumption and (2) initiation of extraction of Petroleum products from the Siwalik range of Nepal. The department also monitors earthquake tremors and is part of global seismic monitoring program.
