Campbell Union Grammar School, built by architect William H. Weeks, first opened in 1923. Originally built in the shape of an E and open to the rear, Weeks designed two additional structures to enclose the building. By March of 1929, both editions were completed and an enclosed courtyard was formed.
Forty-one years after it's dedication, the Campbell Union Grammar School was closed in 1964 due to the World War II population growth and a new decision to place schools where the student population was developing. Following it's closure in 1964, the Campbell Union Grammar School building became the first site used by the newly-developed West Valley College district. Classes remained in session there until 1976.
In 1979, after years of vacancy and vandals had destroyed much of the old school building, the property was sold and the site was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Unfortunately, despite the historical value, the cost of renovating the building in it's entirety proved too high.
However, a compromise was eventually reached and the developers agreed to save the front facade as well as the kindergarten outdoor porch, and redesign the building as close to it's original appearance as possible.
The Heritage Village Project, built by W.L. Errico & Associates under the guidance of William Hedley's architectural firm, proved to be a brilliant preservation of the effects of the Campbell Union Grammar School as originally designed by William H. Weeks.
