The business was formed as The British, Foreign & Colonial Automatic Light Controlling Company Limited in 1905 to make timers for gas street lighting. In 2007 the Company acquired Simmel Difesa, an ammunition supply business, as well as Richmond Electronics & Engineering, a business specialising in bomb disposal technology. In 2008 it went on to buy Scot, a business making devices for aircraft emergency systems, and Martin Electronics, a manufacturer of ammunition and fuses. In 2010 it purchased Roke Manor Research, a centre for advanced technology research and development based in Hampshire, UK from Siemens for £55m.

  • I don't know what "it" is, but the whole thing looks military in nature. Look at the secure fencing that surrounds the complex. The remote parking at the entrance. The blast walls surrounding several buildings and the whole clinical nature of the site
  • Wilne Mills, has been in this location in one form or another for over 1200 years. It is mentioned in the Domesday Book as a mill belonging to the hundred of Sawley. It is now a Private company doing contract work for the Military. Only a few years ago, they used to make Fireworks for sale, and also display purposes.
  • The name of the company is Chemring. :-)
