Coney Island

In 1886-1889, Lambert Naegle purchased the island for $5,200.00. Named it "Coney Island of the West".
Plotted 103 lots, constructed streets, a park,
boat houses, docks, hotel, pavillion and bath houses.
In 1889-Late 1930's, Reinhold Zeglin bought and operated
the hotel complex throughout the period. Rumor has it Mark Twain as a visitor! University of Minnesota held summer training camp there on the east end.
1940's to present, Frank "Shorty" Dvorak owned and operated dining, dance, cottage and launch facilities on the island through the 1950's (also day camp).
Ran a marina, bait, boat rental service in Waconia through the 70's.
The remainder of the island became privately owned and buildings subsequently abandoned.
