Nedong in Tibetan language means ‘in front of the elephant hill’. The county is located at the south of Nyenchen Tanglha or Nyainqêntanglha, and mid stream of Yarlung Zangbo River. The total area of the county is about 2208.85 km2, average altitude of 3560m. There are 11 mountain ranges that exceeds 5000m within the county. Yarlung Zangbo River runs from west to east through the county and divided the county into north and south parts.
