Gupta President, Mr. Ravi Agrawal Distt Governor, Prof YashRoy Secretary and guests: rotarians 2000} Originally made by the Britishers, this 2-acre Banglow has now been modernized with marble/granite flooring. The major tree plantation includes 3 langra mango trees, one dussehri mango tree, five amrapali variety mango trees, one Jamun tree and one banana conglomerate. The annual produce of grain (rice, wheat and pulses), onions, garlic and green vegetables is sufficient for the resident family members and resident domestic help. Organic farming plus urea supplementation is the key. Neem products are used for pest control. Neem-seed oil is used for repelling termite attack (for details of this and the following information search for Yashroy RC on www.google.co.in/ or www.scholar.google.com/ or CSA, PubMed,Web of Science, www.niscair.res.in/, IndMed, HistCite and British Library Direct websites). PUBLIC INTEREST MAJOR SCIENTIFIC FINDINGS OF DR YASHROY and CO-WORKERS:
*Pecten, a specialized organ in the eyes of birds, is a highly blood-vascularized and NUTRITIVE organ supplying nutrients by diffusion via vitreous to retina (Bawa SR & YashRoy RC 1972 Expl Eye Res vol 13, pp 92-97;Bawa SR & YashRoy RC 1974 Acta Anatomica vol 89, pp 473-480). It is located on the blind spot of the eyes containing avascular retina, offering maximum visual acuity -- a critical requirement of high-flying birds (Bawa SR & YashRoy RC 1972 Neurobiology vol 2, pp 162-167). Human and mammalian retinae contain their own blood vascular system, causing partial obliteration of the image and thus affording lower visual acuity. Our INITIAL PROPOSAL (Bawa & YashRoy, 1972 & 1974) that high concentration and distribution of melanin pigment granules in pecten should help absorb light and convert it into heat for increased metabolic rate, has been re-proposed by other workers in year 2008(Goodman & Bercovich, In: Medical Hypothesis, Elsevier: vol 71, pp 190-202, 2008) for melanin anywhere in animal kingdom which may contribute to higher metabolic energy. Interestingly, this may also explain marginal advantage, blacks have shown in winning the sprint events at world level in Olympics. Even slightly more available energy due to absorption of light (and its conversion into heat & slight increase in temperature) may provide marginally extra but critically advantageous metabolic energy at the limiting top-end of exertion levels.
*Plant choloroplast PHOTOSYNTHETIC membranes (the living world's most abundant membrane system and source of all food for living organisms), which are grossly deficient in phospholipids,& instead rich in reverse-hexagonal cylinders-forming monogalactocyldiglyceride lipid, do contain lipid-bilayer organisation (fundamental finding)( YashRoy RC 1990 J Biosci vol 15, pp 281-288). Also, most of their C-13 NMR resonances were assigned to linolenic acid (YashRoy RC 1987 Ind J Biochem Biophys. vol 24, pp 177-178).
*Integral membrane proteins can be micro-located by heat-denaturation using spin-label ESR & C-13 NMR spectroscopy (YashRoy RC 1991 J Biochem Biophys Meth vol 22, pp 55-59; vol 23, pp 259-261)
*NEEM-seed oil is a biodegradable, economical, eco-friendly and effective termite repellent: recommended for wide use (YashRoy RC & Gupta PK 2005 Toxicol Int vol 12, pp 33-34).
*Membrane gel to liquid-crystalline phase transition can be measured from NMR intensities. This novel technique, therefore, saves time tremendously (YashRoy RC 1990 J Biochem Biophys Meth vol. 20, pp 353-356). Another novel technique for C-13 enrichment of plant materials was discovered allowing for fast recording of NMR spectra without complications of C13-C13 couplings (YashRoy RC 1987 J Biochem Biophys Meth vol 15, pp 229-231).
*GRAM-negative organisms translocate their virlulence determinants (endo- & exo-toxins) via outer membrane vesicles (newly discovered phenomenon of vesicular exocytosis in prokaryotes) in order to intoxicate, invade, infect & exploit their eukaryotic host/target cells (YashRoy RC 1993 Ind J Animal Sci vol.63, pp 99-102; YashRoy RC 1998 Current Sci vol 75, pp 1062-1066).
*Nano-vesiclular exocytosis, as above, may serve as a mechanism for type III secretion system in Gram-negative organisms for thriving on animal and plant cells (model proposed). This model radically reforms the currently popular INJECTISOME model (YashRoy RC 2003 Toxicol Int vol 10, pp 1-9). (Current scientific literature of year 2008, supports this proposal.)
*Mechanism of typhoid-like infections by a human isolate, SALMONELLA (3.10:r:-) at ultrastructural level worked out and proposed (YashRoy RC 2007, Ind. Jl. Med. Res, vol 126, pp 558-566) .
*Neem seed extract is helpful in ameliorating hyperglycemia (diabetes)(Gupta,S et al 2004 J Ethnopharmacol vol 90, pp 185-189).
*Augmented BONE-fracture healing, in approximately 40 days, with the use of static permanent bar magnets is scientifically viable for medical applications. Its biophysical mechanism has been unraveled (Singh P, YashRoy RC & Hoque M 2006 Ind J Biochem Biophys vol 43, pp 167-172). Field-testing is in progress and collaboration with medicos and veterinarians is solicited.
