This is where the Spanish container ship, Ranga, owned by the shipping company Naviera Ason SA, was wrecked in March 1982 on her maiden voyage, from Vigo to Reykjavík. The ship was eventually broken up by waves; most of the stern was removed in 1991 to allow filming of the movie Far and Away nearby. The bow and other parts of the ship are still visible.
