The original Bishopsgate is Roman in origin and the modern day road of the same name is called Bishopsgate. Today a stone carved Mitre (that's a bishops hat) is affixed to the wall of a nearby building to indicate the location of this gate.

Bishopsgate (the road) is also the start of the Roman Road called Ermine Street. Surprisingly the city of London estimate that about 50,000 people work in this area of London, yet only 48 were recorded as living here in the last Census (I guess they don't include the homeless people in that!)

The 8 gates to the City of London are:
1. Cripplegate
2. Aldgate
3. Aldersgate
4. Ludgate
5. Bishopsgate
6. Moorgate
7. Newgate
8. Traitors Gate
