There has been a bridge on or near this site for over 2000 years and until 1750 it was the only bridge over the Thames in London. The current bridge was opened in 1973 to a design of Mott, Hay and Anderson and consists of three spans of prestressed concrete girders. It is very close to the site of the c1300 bridge.

The 1831 version of London Bridge is now in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, USA

London Bridge was one of the sites of a terrorist attack on 3 June 2017. Three were killed on London Bridge when a van rammed pedestrians before crashing at the nearby Borough Market.
