Castello Aragonese (Bernalda)

Italy / Basilicata / Bernalda
 palace, castle, building, historical building

The castle of Camarda (now Bernalda) dates to the Norman or Angevin periods, before additional work in the Aragonese period. It hosted, among other royals, King Carlos III of Spain, when he was king of Naples and Sicily. Built in typical south-Italian style, unusually, the castle features several wells and escape tunnels to alleviate the effects of a siege.
