Upper Padrt Pond

Czech Republic / Plzensky / Misov /
 interesting place, pond

Ponds, 630 m upon sea level were constructed in early 17th century to timber-rafting from surrounding wide forests. Their water area is about 200 000 sq.m., lower is situated northward from upper. To ponds leads plenty tributaries and Klabava river originates here. Rests of ice age northern flora could be founded around. In close neighbourhood are ruins of old Benedictine abbey from 11th century. However, these jewels of nature, these exquisite sceneries are unaccessible due to be situated in the useless military training area, which losts its sense along with the end of Iron Courtain times. Proposal construction of American XBR radar site less than mile far of this place unmade any chance to open up this pretty, silent, pitoresque highland countryside, situated in closeness to large cities Prague and Pilsen, to broader community. There could find a visitor only convolutes of stupid military blade wire hurting animals at this time.
