The beginnings of the Holy Cross Church in Prejmer relate to the rule of the Teutonic Knights in Bârsa Country (1211-1225). Widely considered as the most powerful peasant fortification in medieval Transylvania, the fortress encompassing the church in Prejmer was built between the 15th and the 16th centuries.
After 1990 it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Prejmer city is located NE of Brasov and dating from the fifteenth century. Prejmer village houses some of the oldest remains of Transylvania. Fortress was designed to protect the church.

Being situated in eastern Transylvania, which had to defend the city Buzau step was attacked 50 times never being conquered by the Turks.

City walls dating from the first Turkish invasion, 1425-1505. The walls are 12 feet tall. In total there are 272 rooms which are arranged asymmetrically on 4 levels.

Prejmer fortress walls is the most heavily fortified cities in the whole church in Transylvania. Fortress construction has already begun before 1300. A second phase of construction can be dated to the late fifteenth century and beginning of the sixteenth century. In their current form ring ziduril have a height between 12 and 14 meters at the base with a thickness of up to 5 meters.

Inside are over 270 city of refuge and pantry supplies, arranged on two to four levels.

Since 1993 the roofs were damaged and renew chambers drained. The permanent museum exhibitions have been arranged.

Two rooms in the southern city called "Old School", one of them keeping the remains of ancient murals. At the initiative of Saxon Foundation Transilvanieni this room was rearranged to school, lucarile being executed under the care of curator Dr. Volker Wollmann, who conceived and other departments of the city museum.
