Old Stone Bridge

USA / Ohio / Yellow Springs /

The old stone bridge in Glen Helen Nature Preserve crosses Birch Creek on the old Yellow Springs - Clifton Stage Road.

Birch Creek runs over flat limestone from the bridge to the Cascades, just south of here. When it's running at normal water levels, it flows in a relatively deep, narrow channel under the westernmost arch of the bridge.

  • The bridge is a little off the beaten path, but it's worth a side trip. From the footbridge over the Cascades, take the path north along the eastern bank of Birch Creek. As you approach the footbridge, there's a side path that will take you into Birch Creek's channel. Unless the water is unusually high, you can walk right up to the bridge.
