On the 28th June 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand visited the Bosnian Capital of Sarajevo. Whilst driving down the Appel Quay to visit the down hall, a terrorist threw a bomb at his car by the Camurja Bridge. The bomb bounced off the bonnet and exploded by another car, injuring 20 people. The bomber attempted to commit suicide by jumping into the river (which turned out to be only 4 inches deep) and swallowing a cyanide pill (which was out-of-date, making him only vomit). He was then dragged out by the police and beaten up by the crowd. The remaining members of the gang all missed their chances. When the Archduke returned from the Town Hall, coming in the other direction, he ran into Gavrilo Princip.
