Patel Brothers (Niles, Illinois)

This lot portion was owned by the Schwinge family Maria (Krueger) and Herman Schwinge (later by their children John and Anna Schwinge) from 1869 until around 1935, when it was purchased by Herbert Fritz, a carpenter from Chicago's northwest side. The area of that lot was 10 acres (original Schwinge's lot was 80 acres, it stretched all the way to Greenwood Road on the west, Golf Road on the north, the Bruhn farm on the south [approximately where the portion of Golf Mill Mall is now], and crossed over Milwaukee Avenue [approximately where the portion of Four Flaggs Shopping Center is now]). That lot became a location for amusement parks East Maine Miniature Train (1936-1939), East Maine Miniature Rides (1939-1949), and Kiddieville/Kiddie Ville (c. 1950-c. early 1966). Fritz sold that lot in 1966 after the last amusement park closed its doors.

This current building was constructed around Spring 1966, it used to house toy stores Bargain Town U.S.A./Children's Bargain Town U.S.A./Bargain Town Toys/Bargain Town/Bargaintown from (September 1966-October 1972 [began merging with Toys "R" Us in 1971]), Toys "R" Us (October 1972-June 28, 2018), children's discount clothing store Kids "R" Us ([space shared with Toys "R" Us] 2003 [originally located at 8482 West Golf Road {currently Walmart Supercenter]-c. 2008), and Babies "R" Us ([space shared with Toys "R" Us] 2011-June 28, 2018). The current space is now an Indian grocery store chain, opened on October 3, 2019 at 11am by owners Mafat and Tulsi Patel. This is the second location after Chicago's West Ridge neighboorhood.

North of the Patel Brothers' building space currently contains eight storefronts (facing Golf Road), it is separated from this main building. That building portion was part of the previous two toy stores though.

Chicago Cubs MLB player Ronny Cedeño has visited this Toys "R" Us location on April 8, 2006 (between 6:30am and 8pm) and met fans and signed autographs. It was housed in this building during that time.
