It is located on the site of the former mission of the Resurrection-New Jerusalem monastery, which was located here from the mid 17th century. Designed in the style of constructivism, the project was built by the architect, V.M. Mayat — one of great masters of architecture of the prerevolutionary years. Mayat often worked under auspices of merchant families such as the Riabushinskys and Morozovs. His work was especially successful in neoclassical styles. The skill and professionalism of the architect are displayed in this constructivist construction where the composition while being completely simple is thematically rich. The originality of this building is demonstrated by the three flat "columns" of bay windows situated in the center of the facade facing Ilinka Street.
