  • Fire hits Naga City public market - report 11/07/2008 | 07:34 AM MANILA, Philippines - A fire of still undetermined origin hit the Naga City Public Market in Camarines Sur in Bicol before dawn Friday, a radio report said. Radio dzRH reported that as of 5:30 a.m., firefighters appeared to have confined the fire, which razed mainly the second floor and back portions of the market. While no one was initially reported injured, tenants at the market rushed to save their belongings, placing them in an area near the market and guarding them tightly from looters. Firefighters from neighboring areas in the province and fire volunteer groups positioned themselves at the front and back of the burning market to fight the blaze. The Naga City Public Market was once considered one of the biggest commercial establishments in Southeast Asia before the advent of super-malls.
