Yonan County (Yŏn'an-gun), South Hwanghae Province, DPRK
Located in the Haeso region, often refered to as North Korea's breadbasket, Yonan is a mostly agricultural county; however, graphite is also mined in the area, and the county has many famous hotsprings. The county was first created in 1895; however, in 1914 it was merged with the nearby Paechon County to form Yonbaek county. In 1952, the two were again split into two independent municipalities.
Yonan shares the Hanja (Chinese characters) of its name with the famous Chinese city of Yan'an, which was the birthplace and headquarters of the Chinese Communist revolution from 1937 to 1948.
