The History of Nizhny Novgorod Fair counts little less than 5 centuries. In the XIX century the Fair acquired a very important place in the system of All Russia trade. Here the prices on the main goods were established. This was the place where the West met with the East. The yearly turnover of the Fair were over 1.5 bln. of Roubles at the end of the century. N. Novgorod Fair, the largest in Europe, looked like a small European city - wide streets were electrically lighted, it had 8 squares with fountains and parks, numerous shops and stores, brokers offices, 9 banks, thatres and restaurants. At the banks of the both rivers there were quays with innumerable ships. The "population" of Yarmarka comprised up to 400 000 people. The Fair was quick to react to tendencies at internal and external markets. At the beginning of the XX-th century the trade at N. Novgorod Fair was ever growing, despite of general recession. Here prices on major goods (bread, steel etc.) were established. The name of the trading capital and "the pocket of Russia" Nizhny Novgorod owes to its Fair.

Today the Nizhny Novgorod Fair is a large Exhibition Center. Every year it hosts International forums, national and specialized professional trade shows and exhibitions, the most well-known among them are: All Russian Science and Industry Forum "The United Russia", International Forum "Great Rivers/ICEF", "Partner Cities and Brother Cities", the International Autoforum, the Tourism Forum, Medical Forum, Architecture and Construction Forum and Exhibition and many others.
