The American University of Kuwait (AUK) is an independent, private, and coeducational liberal arts institution of higher education. The educational, cultural, and administrative structure, methods and standards of AUK are based on the American model of higher learning. The language of instruction is English.
Established by Amiri Decree 139 in 2003, AUK was originally accredited in 2006, and is currently re-accredited through June 2015, by the Private Universities Council, Ministry of Higher Education - State of Kuwait. AUK offers students a quality education based on an American college model through thirteen degree programs. The curriculum provides students with the benefits of a broad general education and in-depth studies in a major discipline. This combination of studies will support one's personal and professional growth.
The AUK faculty members are highly qualified international academics with first-hand experience of the American style of higher education. The faculty to student ratio is typically 1 to 17 providing students an environment in which it is easy for students to get to know their professors and classmates.
Additionally, the faculty and staff work hard to foster an environment where every aspect of the student's development receives attention and support. Academic courses, extra-curricular activities, and support services are designed to prepare students for the contemporary world in which critical thinking, communication skills, and life-long learning have become imperative. At AUK students will find opportunities to develop academic skills, participate in internships, develop creative talent, and experience community involvement.
The American University of Kuwait adopted a revised statement of mission and values as approved by the Board of Trustees on September 30th, 2012.
