During Ahom reign, digging of large water tanks for easy availability of water for human need and construction of a temple on its bank was a popular trend. The kings funded for such initiatives. Barpatra - was a designation of high official of Ahom administration. One of the then Barpatra was awarded with this large pond and a temple (Dol) in his own village. Since then, this pond is known as Barpatra Dol Pukhuri.
