Built in 1781, the blockhouse at Lacolle Mills was the scene of two battles.
On November 20th, 1812, American troops captured the blockhouse after a brief skirmish in the early hours only to be attacked later, in the dark, by another group of the American militia.
During the confussion, British forces counter-attacked, resulting in the retreat of the Americans from Lower Canada.
On March 30th, 1814, A second attempt to take the stronghold failed.
