I like the story but lacks some coherence in writing. Nevertheless, it is very informative as the story contains some facts and does introduce the school to some of the products of the school who curiously browse Internet, and are keen to know more about Serous-- a village of multiculture. I call it a multi-culture Serou because every dude living in Serous knows at least five languages -- Manipuri, Nepali, Bengali, Hindi and English. The Practical High School founded by Basu Dev Bhattarai in 1970, I suppose, was one of the best schools -- incomparable to any schools run by the Indian Nepalese--be they the nepalese of shillong of dehradun. One product is teaching at Department of Physics, University of Texas at Alwin, USA. Another product is doing P.hD. from University of New Mexico, USA. Some of the products have joined banking, media, multinationals, Indian conglomerates, etc. One of the products has just finished M.Tech. from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. If you go on listing the names of the products of the Practical High School, Serou, then there are numerous. The credit goes to both Mr. Basu Dev Bhattarai who is still alive and kicking in Jhapa, Nepal and Mr. Chandra Bahadur Poudel, who is currently holding a post of additional director of education, Manipur. Poudel is the highest ranking Indian Nepali from Serous serving in Manipur. However, the school does not have any alumnae organization for networking, nor did it invite any of the alumnae during its silver jubilee celebration. I hope it did mark the Silver Jubilee. The school lost its credibility and fame after it became fully government-aided school. Until it was run by the Nepali community of Serous, that was, 1990, it was one of the best schools in Manipur, let alone in Thoubal district. The products of this school have opened three schools in Kathmandu. Some products are even heading prominent research institutes in India and Nepal. Unfortunately, the glory of Serous Practical High School began to decline after the Nepalese of Serous gradually started to move out of the village as a result of insurgency. The new model school, which will soon be in place of the practical high school, should fill that vacuum and cater education to the locals rather it it should be a school for a select few.
