The village apparently was named after the great mill, around which was later bilt one of the oldest settlements. It grew in an important trade route which led the way throug it, about which it was, among other goods, transported salt from Halle to Prague. In the municipality were founded objects from the early Stone Age. Already in 1228 the village belonged to the Monastery of St. George at Prague Castle.
