Historic Woodlawn Cemetery was recognized as a National Historic site in 1998. Established in 1876 outside the then Toledo City limits, the 160 acre cemetery hosts 65,000 internments, including many of Toledo's most prominent families. Designed in the rural cemetery tradition the cemetery features picturesque lakes formed by damming of the Ottawa River, a two mile long enclosing iron fence installed by Stewert Iron in 1915, the 65 foot tall Lucas County Civil War Monument dedicated in 1901 and a 1903 Romanesque Administration Building with bell tower.
