Built by order of Napoleon. In December 1805, the French army captured more than 1200 canons during the battle of Austerlitz. These Austrian and Russian canons were melted for the construction of this monument. On the top of it is figured Napoleon himself as a Roman Emperor. The monument was torned down during the Paris commune in 1871, and rebuilt at the expense of painter Corot
