Overview

Founded in 1957, the Manipal Institute of Technology is reckoned for its academic excellence in engineering sciences, for shaping world-class engineers and as a center for research and specialized studies in engineering science. Known until 1974 as the Manipal Engineering College, the institute was among the first self-financed colleges of the country. It started by offering academic programs in just one discipline - civil engineering, which has over the years grown to graduation in 12 disciplines and post graduation in nine. Needless to say, thanks to its pioneering efforts of the institute, engineering sciences took huge strides, and today is one of the most popular choices of students in India.



The institute has always been tuned in to the practical problems and priorities world. And as a panacea, it aims at shaping engineers, whose number can be on par with their counterparts anywhere in the world. In almost 46 years of its existence, over 14,000 graduates and 700 post graduates have emerged from the portals of MIT Manipal. Some of them have gone on to make a mark for themselves in topnotch companies in India and abroad, while others have pursued academics in reputed universities in India, America and other countries.

It is a constituent institution of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) - A Deemed University. The institute is located in a campus spreading over 160 acres amidst picturesque surroundings.
