Regio VII occupies the central western sector of Pompeii, bounded to the north by the Via della Fortuna Augusta and to the south by the Via Marina. The forum lies almost central within the regio.

The regio is made up of 16 insulae as shown in the graphic below. Of these, insulae 2, 4 and 16 contain properties that are examined here in more detail. (Insula 16 is the southern half of what is known as the 'Insula Occidentalis'). The area is a mix of commercial and domestic properties.
