Comments

  • Lake Henshaw is a water catchment on the eastern slope of Palomar Mountain. The lake and the adjacent 45,000 acre Warner Ranch are owned by the VISTA IRRIGATION DISTRICT as part of their local water supply. Runoff from rains and the Upper San Luis Rey River provides the bulk of the water in the lake except during dry periods. The District has a series of wells on the Warner Ranch that can deliver water to the lake during the drier periods. Water from the lake is released downriver (San Luis Rey River) and diverted into the Escondido Canal near the La Jolla Indian Reservation. Water is delivered to Lake Wohlford in Escondido where it is run through the Vista-Escondido Water Treatment Plant at Lake Dixon and sent to Vista and Escondido areas.
  • Be aware, the nearest gas station is located 12 miles from the lake.
