Omalos Plateau

Battle site near Kato Simi, severe fighting took place in and around this area between the Cretan Partizans and the German occupation forces.
The German forces suffered heavy losses against a small force of (±50) Partizans who ambused them, it has been told that the Germans went in with approx. 200 men and were slaugthered, only 2 soldiers survived the battle, losses on the Partizan side were
minor.
After the battle the Partizans pulled back to the Omalos Plateau nearby.
A few meters away from a EU water point you will find this tomb on the Omalos Plateau in the mountains above the village of Kato Simi.
