Nan Chiau High School is a co-educational secondary school with SAP status. Nan Chiau High School was originally Nan Chiau Teachers' Training School. It was founded in 1941 by Mr Tan Kah Kee, on a plot of land at Kim Yam Road donated by Mr Lee Kong Chian. However, with the Japanese invasion, during the Second World War, the Teachers' Training School stopped functioning.

1947 The Nan Chiau Teachers' Training School became Nan Chiau Girls' High School.
1969 The School was rebuilt to meet the increasing student population. The opening of the new building was officiated by Mr Ong Pang Boon, then Minister of Education, on 8 March 1969.
1979 Nan Chiau Girls' High School began functioning as a full school, with the Primary and Secondary sections sharing the same premises.
1980 The school adopted English Language as its main medium of instruction.
1984 The school became co-educational with the first intake of male students and was renamed Nan Chiau High School.
2001 The Primary and Secondary sections are relocated in Sengkang; they function as two separate schools.
2012 Nan Chiau High School is officially accorded the Special Assistance Plan (SAP) for recognition of its cultural heritage.
