Township (chin.: Bujiu xiang) with Phurchu Gompa. This monastery has a gilded roof, which is most unusual for this region. It belongs to the Gelugpa order (once Nyingmapa). This monastery was one of the original ones that King Songtsen Gampo built prior to Lhasa's Jokhang. It survived the Cultural Revolution, because it was used as a granary. In recent years no more than 8 monks have been living here.
