The Pskovites built the first permanent bridge over the Velikaya only in 1911(a photo 3). Designer of the bridge,G.N.Solovyov,was the first to use cantilever arch girders without horizontal thrusts.The new iron bridge was named after St.Olga. Before every spring, Pskovites built the bateau bridge(photo 4). The first record of the bateau bridge was in the 1462 chronicles. From the 'pfromyan' (flying bridge) the road led westward.
