Crowning composition Lugovoy Park, on a hill rising twenty-meter Babigonskom edifice Belvedere (Italian - great views). From the upper gallery opened vast prospects for the Belvedere neighborhood and the Gulf vistas, covered by a light haze visible Kronshtadt and St. Petersburg. The area, which built the palace, known since the XV century under the name of the mountain Popova, in Swedish scribal books and maps has been identified as Pappingondo (ie, Popovsky parish). After the liberation of the land, as legend has it, there was a second name - Baby gon - a converted from Swedish. Even in the first quarter of XVIII century Babigone pitched "garden" and built a small "Svetlitsa" and cellars. In 50-60s of the XVIII century there Babigone garden. In 1844 there was a wooden house mandative. In its place, decided to build a palace of Belvedere by Alexander Shtakenshnejdera approved in 1852. The palace was set on the basis of a massive monolith of granite blocks of pink granite piterlakskogo. The main entrance - granite staircase-pace - was adorned with a majestic portico with 4 figures of caryatids, carved by model A. Terebenev of gray with a tinge of blue Serdobol granite. These figures resemble caryatids Greek temple Erechtheion on the Acropolis in Athens. The second floor of the Belvedere was decided, like an ancient temple on all sides and is decorated with 28 polished silver-gray granite columns with Ionic capitals of white Carrara marble. The best room was the Belvedere marble hall of the first floor - Great Hall. On both sides of his cabinet were the Empress, cameras, Junker, and the Emperor's office lackey. On the second floor hall and room were located. The greatest artistic value in finishing the Great Hall are ten fluted columns Carrara marble, as well as sculpture, painting. The ceiling was enlivened by deep rectangular caissons (recesses in the ceiling or the inner surface of the arch, vault). The floor was paved with polished marble tiles. By Alexander Shtakenshnejdera was richly decorated Belvedere monumental sculpture: six marble made from antique originals, statues standing on the stairs of the main entrance. On both sides of the pavilion on the solid granite pedestals were two groups of electroforming Pyotr Karlovich Klodt (1805-1867) "Tamers of horses." Furniture Belvedere was also performed on a single project "in the Greek style," and answered the architectural style of the palace. The hill by Alexander Shtakenshnejdera garden master P. Erler was a garden, which went down to the foot of the hill. Garden is enclosed on two sides by trees and bushes like wings. During the war (1941-1945) pavilion was damaged, stolen sculptures, garden layout is destroyed. After the war, the palace was the home of rest.
