Barrio 32 is a neighborhood community with various businesses surrounding it. The community stretches from 32 Street to the west to 40th St to the east. It is bordered by Van Buren Street to the South as well as the SRP Grand Canal Northeast and Highway 202 to the North and Northwest. The name Barrio derives from the Spanish language meaning neighborhood or district. The Area is predominantly populated by Hispanic of Mexican decent and African American. David Crockett Elementary and Academy of Excellence are the two elementary schools serving the community, there is also Gateway Community College residing in the outskirts of the community on 40th st and VanBuren. The area is very well known by law enforcement to be home for a growing population of active gang members. Various Law enforcement branches routinely patrol the area due to the high crime factors within the neighborhood.
