Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area - Nixe's Mate is a tiny sandbar only visible at low tide, with a very unusual pyramid shaped (mini lighthouse) marker in black and white and is the subject of an old sea yarn.

In the 1800s, a man was hung on Nixe's Mate for treason but proclaimed his innocence. Before being hung said that he would hunt down his captors after his death and curse them forever. Shortly after being hung, the sea captain who hung him was stuck with illness and died, and Nixe's Mate was washed away in a storm leaving just a small sandbar in the shape of a question mark, thus proving the man's innocence.
