The English Department of Mississippi State University offers the Master of Arts degree in English Language and Literature, as well as the Bachelor of Arts degree and an undergraduate minor.

We, the members of the Department of English, seek to provide MSU students with the ability to use language effectively so that they may reach their full potentials as individuals and as productive members of society. The Department of Foreign Languages at Mississippi State University offers programs of study leading to the Bachelor of Arts (B.A ) and the Master of Arts (M.A.) in Foreign Languages. A minor in foreign languages (French, German, Latin, or Spanish) may be obtained upon completion of 12 hours of upper-division coursework in one language. Education students desiring teacher certification must earn at least 27 semester hours in the language they plan to teach.
The Department of Foreign Languages sponsors three honor societies: Pi Delta Phi (French), Delta Phi Alpha (German), and Sigma Delta Pi (Spanish). Information about membership requirements may be obtained from the Head of the Department. The Department also sponsors French, German, Japanese, and Spanish clubs which provide social and cultural activities.
Foreign language majors prepare for careers in government (State Department, foreign service, diplomatic corps, FBI, CIA, USIA, the military, immigration, etc), international business, the human services fields, teaching at all levels (secondary school, junior college, university), and other language-related jobs.

The Dean of Students' Office, a department within the Division of Student Affairs, serves as a key link between students, parents, administration, and academia. The Office supports both the academic mission of Mississippi State University and the Division of Student Affairs by providing programs, services, resources, and advocacy for the needs and interests of all students at Mississippi State University.
Open to all students of the University, office staff members provide educational opportunities for students to develop appropriate community behaviors and personal values while providing support to students and parents with personal or University concerns. The staff also assists students and parents in navigating the administrative process of the University.

Sexual Assault Services

A Sexual Assault Response Team has been designated by the Division of Student Affairs to handle sexual assault cases. The team includes a coordinator and designated individuals from the University Police Department, the Longest Student Health Center, and the Counseling Center. For information or to report a sexual assault case, anyone, including students and any member of the university community, may contact the Sexual Assault Response Team Coordinator at 325-2091.
The Sexual Assault Response Team is available to help anyone who reports a violation of the sexual assault policy. The Sexual Assault Response Team can provide crisis intervention, assessment, direct support, and referral for the victim and the accused. The Sexual Assault Response Team is also responsible for coordinating prevention education on campus. For more information or to request programming call the Sexual Assault Services Graduate Assistant at 325-9101 during the fall and spring semesters. During the summer months contact the Coordinator for further information.
Any university employee receiving a report of sexual assault should refer the matter to the Coordinator of the Sexual Assault Response Team. In the absence of the Coordinator, referral to any team member is appropriate. The Coordinator will discuss options and resources with the person reporting the sexual assault. A student may choose to use the university judicial process in cases involving another student, whether the incident occurred on or off campus.

We also serve as consultants and a training resource for faculty and staff. We are committed to the provision of high quality training of masters and doctoral level psychology and counseling students and to ongoing, meaningful research. In our work with students, we seek to remediate problems which are impairing the student's ability to function, but we also focus on developing strengths and facilitating healthy human growth. Utilizing a collaborative team approach, we support and encourage wellness and the pursuit of a positive psychology.
