RTC Communications Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of Rochester Telephone Company Inc. Rochester Telephone Co. was incorporated in 1895 and started providing telephone service in 1896 in a 260 square area around Rochester.

RTC tried to expand through acquisition over the years but could never match the stock purchase offers made by larger holding companies. With passage of new telecommunications legislation RTC began to look for ways to grow the business by becoming a competitor to the incumbent local exchange carrier and chose Akron as the first venture. The system built in Akron is an optic fiber/coax cable system that has allowed RTC to add cable television and high speed Internet to the product line. This was over a 3 million dollar investment to the Akron community. RTC also established a local presence with a new building located at 100 E. Rochester Street in Akron itself.
