The first development built in Battery Park City, Gateway Plaza was constructed from 1983 to 1985. Designed by Jack Brown and Irving E. Gershon Associates, the five acre complex consists of parking facilities and 1,712 apartment units in three 309-foot (94-metre) 34-story towers, two 7-story buildings, and one 6-story building. The buildings are composed of concrete slabs, painted tan on some of the facades, with casement windows in black metal frames.
