Comments added by Dr D.Manikyala Rao, who visited the Institute in 1981: This is premier institution of learning and research of Ocean aspects. These aspects cover the physics, chemistry, geology and biology of the Oceans. This Institute is a part of the CSIR conglomerate and is based on the lines of National Institute of Oceanography, Aberdeen, Scotland, GB. NIO of India serves as a beacon of knowledge for all those engaged in the pursuit of Ocean research and learning. I hope this Inst. will serve usefully for many generations to come. I am now working as Reader in Zoology, Akkineni Nageswara Rao College, Gudivada, Near Vijayawada, Krishna Dt. A.P. 521 301.
