North Augusta, South Carolina

City with a population of 17,574 at the 2000 census. The site of several failed attempts at settlement from the 1700s on, eventually permanently established around the turn of the 20th century as a resort and residential town. Incorporated in 1906. Considered a potential site for the establishment of the nascent movie industry which eventually located in Hollywood, California instead.
