The 17th Street Causeway is a large bascule bridge spanning the Intracoastal Waterway in Fort Lauderdale, carrying Florida State Road A1A. It is maintained by the Florida Department of Transportation. This bridge was re-built in the late-1990s, as the span was not very tall nor wide, causing traffic jams and gridlock in the area. the present bridge opened to traffic in 2002.
