The National Museum of New Zealand. The collection was moved from its former fustian home atop a small hill to its vibrant location on the waterfront in the late 90s, opening day being February 14, 1998.

  • The institution is revered by the politically correct, and the building is much admired as an exciting an innovative example of contemporary architecture. A minority think it is pretentious and hideous. Some mischievous people are fond of pointing out that one meaning of the Maori name "Te Papa" is "the fundament".
