17-story modern university buidling completed in 2013. Designed by Roger Duffy of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the building is mixed use, housing offices, dorms and retail. The new structure replaces the New School's older 3-story building, the Albert List Acadedmic Center, at this location.

The University Center began construction in 2011. It features a bronze-colored CorTen steel exterior with big ribbons of concave, zig-zagging, glass-enclosed staircases traversing the facade of the six-story base, most prominently on the southwest corner above 13th Street. A glass enclosed two-story library spans the top floor of the base and continues up to the first floor of the 10-story dormitory tower above, which houses 600 students. The exterior brass cladding has been angled to thwart perching pigeons, repel rain and bounce light into the building. Inside is an 800-seat auditorium with entrances at street level, fully equipped with movable walls and adjustable seating platforms.
