One of the five 'Wonder Theatres' in the New York City area, the Loew's Jersey opened in 1929. It was designed by Rapp & Rapp. The theatre was later triplexed and was shuttered in 1986. Preservationists saved the theater from becoming an office building and the Friends of the Loew's restored and recently reopened it. The Loew's Jersey reopened in early 2002 as a classic film venue and has become the centerpiece of the Journal Square renaissance.
