This is the approximate filming location for the first guitar solo from Guns N' Roses' November Rain music video. The church and fence were props, built for the shoot, so they no longer exist. Location is approximate, but it is certainly southeast of Galisteo, NM and not far from the Cook Film Ranch. Cerro Pelon is the butte that is visible directly behind the church in the near background in the music video. The more distant mountains are peaks along the Turquoise Trail south of Madrid, NM.

  • My Name is Brad Hartmaier. I am a designer, builder, Production Designer and Art Director, I built the the church for the November Rain Music Video and was the Art Director for the Los Angeles portion of the video and Production Designer for the New Mexico filming. The Ranch was called the Silverado Ranch in New Mexico, but the name of the Ranch has changed. I build the exterior church with props and graveyard in the middle of a large open plain. I also built a second church for the interior shots, which had to be a bit larger for the lights, piano, lighting, crew and camera systems. We also built a flyaway wall for the front of the church for a camera crane to access as an opening shot. I was inside the church with Slash when the helicopter aerials were being filmed. I cued him to exit the church as the assistant director came over the radio. The rest is history. Guns N Roses November Rain.
  • Hi, it’s amazing I found your comment as I’ve always wondered where the big white church came from. Is it still in tact anywhere that you know of? Or was it scrapped after the video? And thank you for building that church, you basically made history!
  • I don’t mean to call you into question. But isn’t that church the same one used in the 1985 film Silverado?
