  • Climate control platform? Uh, okay. Actually, this is a 'troposheric scatter' radio transmitter station built in the late 50's/early 60's (?) by the Americans when communications satellites were still a fuzzy idea on somebody's drawing board. These monsters worked by bouncing powerful radio signals off the troposphere down to a recipient station to the distant North, most probably an American military base in South Korea or Japan. These stations are built in 'relay chains' so they can pass on a transmission from point to point in the shortest period of time. Kinda cool, when you think about it... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troposcatter
  • So, has anyone ever tried to determine, considering tropospheric scatter and angle of orientation, what location(s) these things actually might be pointing at? Are South Korea and/or Japan realistic solutions?
  • Very correct except the receiving station was Juzon Taiwan, there were also microwave links to John Hay AFRC, Wallace AFS and Clark AFB. The two large antennas were connected to two transmitters pumping out 10,000 watts each. Former Station Station Manager at this site 1978-80
